The Machair
The Machair Project was conceived as a way of providing classroom resources for teaching in a format that is easily reproducable, taking advantage of Information Technology. The work was undertaken by a team of researchers from the Macaulay Institute and "translated" by Chris. The format was devised by Chris with technical assistance from a designer and an IT specialist.
The resource was distributed free to all secondary schools in Scotland in 2005 by Learning and Teaching Scotland (who commissioned the work) and was awarded "Highly Commended" by the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers (SAGT) at their 2005 annual conference.
The resource is based on the format of the Scottish Higher Geography Curriculum and is an example of bringing together researchers from different disciplines to transfer knowledge outwith their peer groups.
